Booking an author
Who are the authors?
Every author on Texas Author Visit lives in Texas, agrees to our author guidelines, and is approved by our team before anyone can book them.
Do authors come to our campus in person?
Yes. In-person school visits are what this site is for. Each visit listing says how long it runs, how many sessions it includes, and the author's fee.
Can the visit be in Spanish?
Many of our authors read and present in Spanish or in both languages. Use the language filter on the authors page.
Our campus needs a background check and forms. Is that OK?
Yes. Every author agrees to complete the background check and the forms each campus requires before every visit — even when two campuses are in the same district.
What if we don't know which author to pick?
Post a request with your date, grades and budget, and interested authors will send you their own proposals. Post a request.
Paying
Can we pay with a purchase order?
Yes. Choose "Purchase order" at checkout and enter your PO number. Once we approve it, we email an invoice due in 30 days. We accept checks.
When is the author paid?
Your payment stays with us until the visit or delivery is confirmed — or 14 days after the visit date if nobody reports a problem. Then the author's share is sent to them.
Are there discounts on books?
Yes. Buying several copies of a title lowers the price per copy automatically in your cart. For very large orders, contact us for a quote.
Does it cost anything to make an account?
No. Campus, library and community accounts are free. You only pay for the visits and books you book.
Changes & cancellations
What if we need to change plans?
Let the author know as early as you can. If you cancel 7 or more days before the visit, you get your money back. With less notice than that, the author keeps the fee, because they set that day aside for your students.
What if the author has to cancel?
You get every dollar back, no matter how close to the date. Authors agree to tell the campus at least two weeks ahead whenever they can.
Something went wrong — what do we do?
Use “Report a problem” on your booking or order before the payment is released, and our team will step in.
For authors
Who can join?
Texas authors who are available for in-person school visits. Join as an author.
What does it cost me?
Nothing to join or list. When you make a sale, the site keeps 5% of book sales and 15% of visit fees, and Stripe's card fee comes out of your share. Purchase orders paid by check have no card fee.
How do I get paid?
You connect your own Stripe account once. Your share is deposited automatically after each visit or delivery is confirmed.
Can I charge for travel?
Yes. Include travel in your visit fee or in your proposal, and talk it over with the campus in messages first.
